Public School Indoctrination (Social-Emotional Learning: Part I)

In our modern era, notions of empathy, tolerance, inclusivity, equitability, and representation have risen greatly in societal importance. Not surprisingly, those ideals found natural homes within the nurturing walls of schools across the country. To ensure alignment with those cultural ideals, our nation’s public education system effectuated a philosophical and ideological transformation that traded equality for equity, academic achievement for academic growth, and accountability for emotional safety. Schools adopted social-emotional learning theories and implemented programs such as restorative justice, trauma-informed training, culturally responsive teaching, and positive behavior incentive supports. Sensible practices such as student retention were exorcised from the profession, natural emotions required for accountability were discarded as harmful, and industry thought leaders continue to perpetuate the myth that the solution to every problem is building relationships. The harmful indoctrination of social-emotional learning theories is what has ultimately led to the collapse of our nation’s public school system, and it’s negative ramifications on society and individuals will be felt for decades to come.
